Overview
The Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety qualification is aimed at candidates working as a health and safety practitioner, in a position of responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of a team or organisation. The qualification is generic and appropriate for individuals working in a range of sectors. The awarding body for this qualification is ProQual Awarding Body and the regulatory body is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).
The specification for this qualifications has been approved by the Council for the Curriculum Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) for use by centres in Northern Ireland. This qualification has been accredited onto the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
Who can take this qualification?
This NVQ program is completed using actual work product that you would be creating and implementing during your day to day role, alongside knowledge & understanding sections and projects. It is therefore a requirement that you have some responsibility for health & safety in your workplace for example, Facilities Managers, Line Managers, Care Home Managers, Warehouse Managers and anyone else who is responsible for advising colleagues on health & safety matters.
How long will it take to complete this qualification?
The awarding body of this qualification (ProQual) suggested that the total qualification time is 310 hours, we fell this qualification can be completed in 6 months. That's just 12 hours per week. Although a-lot of these hours you will already be spending carrying out your role.
How will I complete this qualification?
Once you are enrolled you will be allocated a tutor/assessor and you will work together to complete the qualification. The different types of work and activities that you will undertake to complete the qualification include, Submitting work product such as Policies, Procedures, Risk Assessments, Accident Investigations, emails showing your involvement with H&S in the workplace, Knowledge & Understanding Q&A's, Observations by your tutor, Witness Testimonies from colleagues/managers.
There are no EXAMS to complete to achieve this qualification.
Qualification Structure
There are 5 mandatory units which must be completed and an additional 2 units which can be chosen from 4 optional units.
Mandatory Units-
1) Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risk to health and safety
2) Develop procedures to safely control work operations
3) Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
4) Promote a culture of health & safety in the workplace
5) Conduct a health & safety risk assessment of the workplace
Optional Units - (Minimum of 2)
1) Investigate and evaluate health & safety incidents and complaints in the workplace
2) Make sure actions in the workplace aim to protect the environment
3)Review health and safety procedures in the workplace
4) Supervise the health, safety and welfare of a learner in the workplace
