Overview
The Level 3 Award in Intermediate Fire Risk Assessment provides a nationally recognised qualification for those working the fire risk assessment industry, and who work predominately in medium-risk buildings. This qualification is based on the skills, knowledge and behaviours outlined in BS 8674 Built Environment - Framework for Competence of Individual Fire Risk Assessors - Code of Practice
The aims of this qualification are:
• To enable those working as fire risk assessors, in premises identified as medium risk; to demonstrate their competency.
• To provide a mechanism for individuals working as independent fire risk assessors, in premises identified as medium risk; to demonstrate they meet the skills and knowledge requirements set out in BS 8674.
• To enable those working in the fire risk assessment industry to develop and demonstrate their skills.
A medium-risk building may be:
• A residential building, where the occupants number less than 50, including those who may be unfamiliar with the layout of the building, or who have some impairments that may impact their ability to escape.
• A retail or commercial building that:
o Is occupied by less than 100 members of staff and the public.
o Has less than 7 stories above ground level.
o Has no occupied basement level.
o Has no abnormal hazards.
o Is less than 600 square metres.
o Is constructed of a traditional, or lightweight timber, frame or has an External Wall System.
Who can take this Course?
This course is aimed at those who regularly carry out fire risk assessments as ‘competent persons’ as required by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO).
Individuals enrolling onto this course will typically be Fire Risk Assessors or safety professionals with an advanced level of responsibility for fire safety.
This qualification is specifically designed to enable learners to demonstrate their ability to undertake fire risk assessments in medium-risk premises.
This qualification is suitable for both in-house Fire Risk Assessors and independent consultants.
How will I complete this qualification?
Face to Face (Classroom)
You can attend one of our face-to-face training sessions in Horsham, West Sussex.
This course is delivered over 5 days which is then followed up by the completion of an online assignment pack and the submission of evidence. submission of Medium Risk Premises (Buildings under 18m in height).
Online (Zoom/Teams)
Our online sessions will run similarly to that of the classroom sessions but will be delivered via Teams.
This course is delivered over 5 days which is then followed up by the completion of an online assignment pack and the submission of evidence. submission of Medium Risk Premises (Buildings under 18m in height).
There are no EXAMS to complete to achieve this qualification.
Course Structure
There are 8 core subjects which will be covered over the 5 day period
Course Content-
-Understand legislation and guidance relevant to intermediate Fire Risk Assessment
-Understand the principles of Fire Risk Assessment for intermediate risk buildings
-Understand the control measures used to reduce the risk of, and from, fire, this includes fire alarms, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting and fire doors as well as many others
-Understand how to develop own and other’s knowledge of Fire Risk Assessment
-Prepare to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment in an intermediate-risk building
-Conduct a Fire Risk Assessment of an intermediate-risk building
-Communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders while carrying out a Fire Risk Assessment of an intermediate-risk building
-Demonstrate appropriate and professional behaviour
